Panic gripped parts of Bengaluru on Friday morning after at least 40 private schools across the city received bomb threats via email, just hours after a similar scare rattled over 40 educational institutions in Delhi.
According to officials, the threats were sent to schools in areas including Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Kengeri. Authorities immediately launched search operations, deploying multiple teams from the Bengaluru City Police along with the Bomb Disposal Squad and dog units to inspect the school premises.
“We are taking every measure to ensure the safety of the children. So far, nothing suspicious has been found, and investigations are underway to trace the origin of the emails,” said a senior police officer.
The incident closely follows a wave of threats that struck Delhi earlier in the day. According to reports, bomb threats were received at approximately 45 schools in the capital, triggering swift evacuations and a heavy security response.
Among the institutions affected in Delhi were prominent names such as Summerfield International School, GD Goenka, and St. Thomas School, as well as several schools in Pitampura, Dwarka, Paschim Vihar, and Rohini.
The Delhi Police responded by deploying bomb disposal squads, fire units, and search teams to the affected campuses. No explosives were found during the checks.
This marks the fourth such instance of coordinated bomb threat emails targeting Delhi schools in a single week, raising serious concerns about the source and intent behind these messages.
On Thursday, a day before the threats, mock drills were conducted at 10 locations in Delhi to assess the readiness of security forces in emergency scenarios.
Delhi Education Minister Atishi condemned the spate of threats, stating: “More than 20 schools have received bomb threats today. Think of the trauma that children, parents, and teachers would be going through.”
Authorities have not established any direct links between the threats in Delhi and Bengaluru, but cybercrime and intelligence units are now collaborating to investigate possible connections.
No injuries or damage have been reported in either city, and classes in most affected schools were suspended for the day as a precautionary measure.
